AAPARTS-

A-Author: The main issuse is "point of view" and literally is the person(s) who produced the document. Identify any bias held by the author(s)

 

P-Place: Identify the bias held by people in the area, notating when and where the document was produced. Do not confuse this with setting of document.

 

P-Prior knowledge: This involves relevant issues and known facts related to the topic of document. It provides an excellent method to uncover facts using the document itself. Beyond the information about the author and the context of its creation, what you know that will help you further understand the primary source.

 

A-Audience: Identify whom the document is intended for and whether there is any bias directed at the targeted audience.

 

R-Reason: Examine the reason why the source produced the document and look for obvious content that supports the purpose and any hidden agenda, which might affect the reliability.

 

T-Thesis: The point or idea the source conveys.

 

S-Significance: This provides connectivity and helps deal with these questions: 1. Why study history? 2. Why study the document? 3. Why was (is) this document important?
